We all crave control. Whether it’s over our schedules, our surroundings, or our relationships, we often believe that control is the key to peace and stability. But what if I told you that true empowerment isn’t about controlling everything around you, but rather letting go?
In the year 2025, we’re living in an age of unprecedented technology and information. With so much available at our fingertips, it’s easy to feel like we need to manage every detail. Yet, when we constantly grip the reins too tightly, we miss the beauty of life unfolding on its own terms.
Take, for example, my own journey as a caregiver to my wife, who is currently battling pneumonia while also undergoing cancer treatment. For a long time, I felt the intense need to control every aspect of our lives—managing her treatments, doctor’s appointments, and making sure everything was perfectly organized. I believed that if I could control every detail, I could protect her from the unpredictable challenges that illness brings.
However, as time went on, I realized that true strength didn’t come from controlling everything—it came from surrendering to the flow of life. I started to let go of the pressure to make everything perfect. What I found was remarkable: my energy began to shift. Instead of trying to force every moment into a structured mold, I embraced the unexpected—the unplanned moments—and these often became the most meaningful. It was during these times that I found connection, resilience, and unexpected grace.
Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect, and sometimes, it’s in letting go that we find the strength to move forward.
This week, notice where you feel the need to control. Ask yourself: What might happen if I just let go for a moment? You may be surprised at how much more empowered you feel.
Warmly,
Geoff Grant
