The funny thing about when I procrastinate, I am actually doing something. It’s just not the thing I think I should be doing. The fact is I am doing just about anything besides actual work. What I tend to do when I procrastinate is make more work for myself. For example, I will organize things such as paperwork. You could say I goto the logical side of my brain when I procrastinate. I gather I am thinking that If I could just organize this stuff, that would allow me to focus on the thing I really should be working on.
It may sound counter intuitive but much productivity lies in creativity. What I realize is that the earlier I tap into my creative side, the sooner I am likely to begin the work. Something creative for me would be a journaling, reading a chapter in a book or blogging. I think beginning with a creative act leads to more productive pursuits. I also believe leading with creativity gets me out of my head and makes the day more fun.
Creativity lives in all of us and we can access it at anytime. Like anything else it’s a skill which must be practiced until it becomes a habit. Once you do this you’ll be able to access it when needed.
