It’s reasonable to connect the feeling of gratitude to something that arrives in bright moments—a warm sunset, a kind gesture, a victory. But the most profound kind of gratitude shows up in the gray—when things are uncertain, difficult, or even painful.
A simple reminder when life becomes hectic is all brought to a standstill when my wife smiles at me. Just a small smile—tired, but real. And in that brief moment, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Not because things are perfect—they aren’t. But because in the midst of it all, love is still there.
Gratitude in the gray doesn’t ignore reality. It doesn’t pretend things are fine. It simply finds something worth holding onto—even if it’s just a breath, a smile, a moment of connection.
This week, look for gratitude in unexpected places. Not because everything is okay, but because something still is.
My upcoming book dives deeper into finding joy even in life’s gray areas—stay tuned for its release soon.
Warm Regards,
Geoff Grant
