As a caregiver for 20 years I realize the importance of self care. I also have been noticing that everyone should practice self care whether they are a caregiver or not. In addition, the majority of men don’t practice self care. I set off to research about self care for men on the internet and was very surprised by the lack of available information. The results were mostly from men’s magazines from a few years back. The content was mostly about skin care, massages, and meditation. The majority of the results were about self care for women.
I see this lack of information not as a hindrance to my research, but as an opportunity. This is an opportunity for me to become a thought leader in the space. I deeply care about this subject not only as a caregiver, but as a man. I know that men in our society are conditioned to to overlook their emotions rather than nurture them. I also know that men do not place a high value on their relationships with others.
In this era of technology that creates more disconnections between people, I believe this topic is more important that ever.
